Whiteman Lumber Company specializes in cutting custom, oversized timbers for timber frame homes.  We are a custom manufacturer of high grade rough and surface timbers. Our mill specializes in supplying home and commercial builders and we take pride in our ability to meet highly specified orders. We use Douglas-fir, Western larch, Engelmann Spruce, Hemlock, Grand Fir, and Western Red Cedar.

The Whiteman Lumber Company History

Whiteman Lumber was founded in 1928 by Harry Whiteman who had emigrated from England. Mr. Whiteman began supplying the local silver mines with timber and continued doing so for many decades. Eventually he turned the mill over to his three sons, Wes, Laddie and Keith.

In 1988, Brad and Mary Corkill bought the mill from the two surviving brothers, Wes and Keith. The mines were the dominant customers. It wasn’t long, however, before economic and environmental issues forced the curtailment of most of the mining. The mill had to re-invent itself and find new markets.

Rosenberger Construction has been using Whiteman Lumber since 2012 for our rough sawn timber source. Timbers are a focal point in the custom lodge style homes we build and Whiteman continues to deliver on every order. Their excellent customer service and professionalism makes business deals simple. Clydesdale Frames Co has been using Whiteman Lumber Co to supply our Douglas Fir needs for the last 25 years. Obviously, if they didn't deliver on the product, I would find a new supplier. After hundreds and hundreds of orders, their timber is the same now, as it was 25 years ago. The sizes are spot on and the service is really good. In my industry, it is very helpful to know that an 8" wide timber is actually going to measure 8" wide. Whiteman has very good quality control over the timbers that leave the mill and head my way. I am located in Kansas, a long way from Idaho. I have never had to drive to Idaho to replace a timber...not once. That is saying something. The personal relationships that have formed over those years have become a very important part of doing business. They care about my family and I care about theirs. Swapping stories has become a normal part of our transactions and I wouldn't change any of that. I think of them as family...they are good people.
